Data Center Move – Oilfield Supplier

Project Details

Faced with the imminent closure of their existing data center, our client, a leading oilfield supplier, was compelled to relocate their critical IT infrastructure. Given their 24×7 operational needs, the primary challenge was to devise a plan that would minimize both downtime and risk during the transition. Cost for downtime equated to $1,500 per minute! Our team embarked on a meticulous project that began with whiteboarding and assessing the current infrastructure. We proposed building a minimal infrastructure capable of replicating current workloads, ensuring that essential operations could continue seamlessly while the bulk of the infrastructure was physically relocated.

The project progressed by constructing the new infrastructure, setting up replication, and executing the cutover to the temporary setup. Once this was accomplished, we moved the production servers, storage, and networking components to the new data center. The final step involved cutting back over to the fully functional production infrastructure. The outcome was a smooth transition with minimal disruption to the client’s round-the-clock operations. As a side benefit, the project also introduced additional redundancy, further enhancing the client’s IT resilience and reliability.

Project Summary
